![]() above: the lower grades wing, as seen from the old 5th grade modular classroom in 1999. From left to right are the locker rooms and bathrooms (no windows), Mrs. Rae Fuhrmann's kindergarten, Mrs. Schieferstein's 1st grade, and Mrs. Hess' pre-kindergarten. In the 1970s, the Wyneken student population grew rapidly,
and there was now one grade per class. One band-aid solution was placing several portable
classrooms on the north end of the campus. By 1980, a new structure was joined with the
original schoolhouse and replaced the modular classes. The new classrooms were state-of-the-art, featuring spacious storage cabinets and cloak
areas, as well as sinks in each room. The pre-kindergarten/kindergarten room met state
standards for size and washroom facilities. Plus, they linked to the gymnasium and
original wing to keep the campus together. The library became the geographic center of the
school's classrooms. |
