Wyneken Memorial Lutheran School was founded in 1969 through an association formed by three Lutheran churches in the Decatur community – Zion, Friedheim; St. John, Bingen; and St. Paul, Preble. Wyneken is named after the Reverend Friedrich Conrad Dietrich Wyneken (a missionary for the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod who traveled the area on horseback as he shared the saving Gospel message of Jesus Christ).
